YUKOIL LLC, having concluded a direct agreement with ECHA Microbiology (UK), expands the range of products offered and presents to the domestic aviation market MicrobMonitor2 – an innovative product for monitoring microbial contamination in fuel and petroleum products. MicrobMonitor2 allows testing in accordance with the new international method IP 613 “Determination of the permissible number of aerobic microbes in fuel and associated water – thixotropic gel method”.
The test is supplied and supported in Ukraine by Ukoil, which also provides consulting (including assistance in interpreting results and developing solutions), training and other services.
What is this test used for?
It allows you to determine the presence and quantitative indicator of microbial contamination in petroleum products during storage, transportation and use, including:
- aviation, automotive and marine fuel;
- biofuel, fuel oil and crude oil;
- lubricants and hydraulic oil;
- metalworking fluids;
- associated water with any of the above.
It is also a sensitive test for detecting microbes in water or any other fluid.
Why test for microbes in fuel?
Microbial contamination can result in aborted takeoffs, ship out of service, and bearing failures in power plants. If microbes are detected early, all of this can be avoided.
Regular monitoring as part of standard maintenance procedures significantly improves the efficiency of machinery and reduces operational risks.
The presence of microbes in fuel can cause:
- clogged filters, blocked fuel and oil lines, and injectors, causing excessive wear and failure.
- corrosion of tanks, bearings, and other systems;
- increased water content, causing cloudiness and deterioration of fuel quality.
What is the test?
- A small glass container containing a thixotropic food-grade gel designed to culture microbes associated with fuel and oil spoilage.
- Sold in boxes of five tests with sterile devices for measuring and dispensing fuel, oil and water samples.
- A simple, innovative and safe way to access a range of colony forming units (CFU), the standard unit for measuring microbial counts.

Is the test reliable?
MicrobMonitor2 was originally developed for use in the aviation industry for jet fuel testing and is recommended by IATA and is listed in the aircraft maintenance manuals of Boeing, Airbus and other major aircraft manufacturers. Major airlines have been using MicrobMonitor2 for many years.
MicrobMonitor2 has been independently validated in an interlaboratory study performed for the Energy Institute, providing the ability to test in accordance with the international standard method IP 613, “Determination of Aerobic Microbial Acceptable Counts in Fuels and Associated Waters – Thixotropic Gel Method.” The test also provides results compatible with laboratory test methods IP 385 and ASTM 6974-03.
MicrobMonitor2 is used by the military and is a NATO coded product nomenclature.
